  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Bladder control problems
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Prostate cancer
  • Prostate disorders
  • Urinary incontinence

TUNA-Prostiva

Urology Group of New Mexico is now offering men an innovative therapy for the treatment of their BPH symptoms, called Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA ) of the prostate. It is an alternative to the more conventional treatments of medical and surgical therapy. The TUNA procedure is minimally invasive, non-surgical technique for the treatment of BPH. since the TUNA procedure requires on local anesthesia, it is conveniently performed as an out-patient procedure in the comfort of our urology clinic in approximately 60 minutes. TUNA is not experimental. It is a full FDA approved, effective therapy for BPH symptoms.

Interstim

Urology Group of New Mexico offers "Sacral Nerve Root Modulation" (Interstim), finally, treatment for refractory urinary frequency, urgency, urge incontinence and urinary retention. Approved for use in the US by the FDA in 1997, Interstim therapy has proven to be extremely helpful to those whose symptoms have not responded to more conventional medical and surgical therapies. it is particularly appealing because it occurs in two steps. The first step is an in-office test stimulation which predicts whether or not the therapy will work to relieve the patients symptoms. Only if it does will the patient go on to the second step which is the implantation of a completely internalized, permanent, neurostimulator. This second step is a simple same day surgery. UGNM was the first and only urology practice to offer this therapy in New Mexico, beginning in 1999. More information is available at Medtronic.com
